Weekend 2 - Planting has Begun!

This past weekend, Brian and I hauled the last loads of old sod to the local mulch and compost site, Meadow Farm. After six truckloads of sod removal, we moved on to hauling home fresh composted topsoil from our town's community compost/mulch/topsoil exchange. Our Saturday activities were essentially: dig, and… repeat.

On Sunday, we were able to plant our first group of shrubs and ground cover in the front yard. After transplanting several oddly-situated existing shrubs and hosta, and removing some seriously invasive 'groundcover' (re: weed that spreads and drowns out all plants around it) we added low evergreens and perennial flowering shrubs to the front beds. We planted three varieties of sedum, as we begin converting the area in front of our Japanese Maple, to groundcover. We also added three new lilacs to a row of existing lilacs we'd transplanted the year before, completing what will be a lovely side yard privacy screen in the years to come.
